Welcome to the Money Go Round Website – an ever-expanding resource.
The Money Go Round CD ROM was launched in October 2002. Covering many aspects of Financial Literacy, it is a useful introduction to the subject covering such areas as:
· Budgeting
· Using a Bank
· Buying Goods and Services
· Getting Advice
· Checking Paperwork
· Borrowing and Saving
There are twenty-eight topics within these areas including how to use the on-line tools. Each topic contains an information section with useful activities to check understanding in fun and imaginative ways.
There’s also a quiz that checks how much has been learned.
Money Go Round can be personalised to suit your particular needs. It will remember the topics you have covered and it can also suggest which topics to try next. The text size can be enlarged; the background and foreground colours adapted to suit, and text can be read out via headphones or speakers. Activities can also be printed to enable off-screen reading.
There is an extensive tutor's area that provides suggestions on how the CD ROM can be used, help on how to personalise learning and selection of topics. The documents are available for printing and also on-screen viewing. Tutors can also personalise work using the Adult Literacy & Numeracy Core Curricula and the Adult Financial Capability Framework directly. This is achieved by an interactive mapping tool, which indicates which skills are being covered in each topic and updates the personal list automatically. You can even decide which questions should be used in the quiz.
This web site has been set up to support tutors and money advice workers in using the CD ROM. If you’ve used Money Go Round already and you’ve come up with useful tips, please let us know so that we can pass the news on to other users. Over time we are aiming to have:
· A comprehensive list of useful contacts
· Lots of ideas to support Teaching and Learning – e.g. lesson plans
· Comments from users
· A collection of materials and resources
· Hardware information; frequently asked questions, troubleshooting, bugs etc.
Please contact us on financialliteracy@basic-skills.co.uk if you have anything you would like to contribute.
